SAN ANTONIO - Weber State softball earned their first win of the season 5-1 against UMass Lowell but fell 3-2 to UTSA on day one of the UTSA Invitational.

Game One - Weber State 5, UMass Lowell 1
  • The Wildcats got off to a hot start, bringing home four runs in the bottom of the first. Sadie Kirk singled to center field, allowing Riley Whalen to score the first run of the 2025 season.
  • A Kiaira Smith RBI, after flying out to center field, gave the Wildcats their second run. Eva Richardson doubled down the left-field line for two RBI and extended the 'Cats lead to 4-0.
  • It was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when Kiaira Smith grounded out as Tori Rey scored.
  • UMass Lowell earned their first run in the top of the six off an RBI single to left-center field.
  • Weber State continued to hold UMass Lowell to just one throughout the final inning, securing their first win of the season, 5-1.
  • Freshman Raina Navarro earned the Wildcats' first win of the season and the first of her Weber State career, pitching 4.0 innings.
Game Two - Weber State 2, UTSA 3
  • Gianna Memoli doubled to right-center field in the top of the third. Sienna Solis then hit a single down the right-field line, and Memoli crossed home plate to put the Wildcats on the board first.
  • UTSA got on the board in the bottom of the third, recording one run.
  • The Wildcats regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Whalen doubled to left-center to bring home Taegan Smith.
  • Bases were loaded for Roadrunners in the bottom of the fifth, but a strikeout by Joslynn Veltien helped get the Wildcats out of the jam.
  • Despite the Wildcats efforts to extend their lead, UTSA recorded runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the 3-2 victory.
  • Cali McCraw totaled 6 strikeouts throughout 4.0 innings.
  • Whalen led the team offensively going 2-for-3 at bat and finishing the game with one RBI. Solis and Memoli both went 1-for-3 at bat.
From Head Coach Kristin Delahoussaye
"This is day one of the marathon we call softball season and I'm really happy with the energy we brought. We showed fight and fire from beginning to end. We will build the consistency as we continued to learn and grow as a team. We showed moments where all areas of our game (pitching, defense, hitting and base running) were all extraordinary. I'm excited to see what this team can accomplish."
