OREM, Utah - Weber State softball snapped a four game losing streak to in-state rival Utah Valley 5-3 this Monday evening.Â
UVU struck first with a single up the middle. However, a 2-1 lead quickly came for the Wildcats off a Olivia Birkinshaw single for two RBI.
Utah Valley responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third and the score was tied 3-3.
Scoreless until the sixth inning, the Wildcats regained the lead when Sienna Solis advanced to third base following a Mariyah Delgado hit. Solis then advanced home off an Utah Valley throwing error. Weber State scored again on the following pitch off another UVU throwing error.
To finish it out for the 'Cats, Abby Grundy singled to bring home Tori Rey.
Making it quick in the bottom of the seventh, the Wolverines did not record a hit and the Wildcats won 5-3.Â
Raina Navarro earned the win (2-2) as she pitched a complete game facing 32 batters and recording one strikeout.Â
Offensively, Grundy led the squad going 2-for-3 at bat with one RBI. Jordan McMahon went 2-for-4 at bat and Birkinshaw went 1-for-3 with two RBI.Â
