Wildcats close out weekend with a win over Utah

FULLERTON, Calif. -  Weber State softball took down the Utah Utes this Sunday afternoon on their final day of the Judi Garman Classic. The Wildcats ended the weekend 2-3. 

Weber State 6, Utah 4 (8 Inn.)
  • Sadie Kirk hit a home run on the third pitch of the day to put the Wildcats on the board first. 
  • The Utes responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. 
  • Extending their lead, Utah hit a home run to center field.
  • A Tori Rey double tacked on another run for the Wildcats.
  • Weber State regained the advantage in the top of the sixth inning when Abby Grundy hit a double for two RBI. 
  • Notching another two runs in the top of the eighth, courtesy of an Eva Richardson home run. 
  • Weber State's defense stood strong allowing the 'Cats to secure the win 6-4 in eight innings.
  • The Wildcats ended the Judi Garman Classic 2-3 on the weekend.
  • Grundy went 2-for-4 at bat with two RBI.
  • Kirk went 2-for-4 at bat with two runs and one RBI.
  • The Wildcats totaled 10 hits to the Utes seven.
  • Cali McCraw pitched a complete game facing 34 batters and recording five strikeouts. The win improves her 2-1 on the season.

The Wildcats travel to Fort Collins, CO for a matchup against the Colorado State Rams. Weber State will play a doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 7 at noon and 3 p.m. and on Saturday, Mar. 8 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network and live streaming can be found at WeberStateSports.com.
