WSU women finish seventh at Big Sky Outdoor Championships

Kapua Pulotu won the conference title in the discus for the second straight year.

SACRAMENTO - The Weber State women's track and field team finished seventh at the Big Sky Championships held this week at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento. 

WSU captured one individual title and totaled 46 points to finish in seventh place. 

Senior Kapua Pulotu repeated as a Big Sky champion in her final conference meet. She won the title in the discus for the second-straight year, as she posted a mark of 168-08 to win the event by nearly five feet. She is the first Wildcat to win the conference title in the discus in consecutive years. She also became the first WSU women's athlete to win the same field event in back-to-back years since 2004. 

Pulotu was also fifth in the shot put with a mark of 46-06.75. 

In other field events, Shannan Fonua finished fourth in the hammer throw with a career best mark. She posted a mark of 175-11 to finish fourth, which is the ninth-best in WSU history. 

Freshman Sarah Spangenberg finished fourth in the heptathlon on Wednesday and Thursday with a total of 4,681 points, which is now the eighth-best in WSU history. 

Miley Richards finished sixth in the javelin at 130-09 and Bailey Tovey was eighth in the shot put with a career-best mark of 44-00.50. 

In the track events, the Wildcat 4x100 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 46.71. The 'Cats were sixth in the final event of the meet, the 4x400 meter relay. 

Saga Hagelin finished fifth in the steeplechase with a time of 10:29.27. The 'Cats placed two in the 100-meter hurdles with Payge Walz taking sixth at 14.10 and Eliza Smith finishing eighth at 14.32. 

Jasmine Devers finished eighth in the 200 meters at 24.75. 

Up next for those that qualify will be the NCAA West Region First Round meet, which will be held May 28-31 in College Station, Texas.
