Four Wildcats qualify for NCAA First Round meet

Saga Hagelin, Laurie Murphy, Miley Richards, and Kapua Pulotu have all qualified for the NCAA First Round meet May 22-25 in College Station, Texas.
Four Weber State women's track and field athletes have qualified for the NCAA West Region First Round.Â
Saga Hagelin, Laurie Murphy, Miley Richards, and Kapua Pulotu have all qualified for the NCAA First Round meet, which will be held May 28-31 in College Station. The top 48 athletes in the West Region in each event qualify for the championships.Â
The top 12 finishers in each event at the region meet will advance to the NCAA Championships.Â
The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live results available at WeberStateSports.com.Â
Hagelin is the highest-ranked Wildcat heading into the meet and will compete in the west first round meet for the second-straight year. Â
She's ranked 24th in the west region in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She posted a seasonal best time of 10:09.79 in the event earlier this season. Hagelin finished fifth in the steeplechase at the Big Sky Championships.Â
She is a junior from Sweden. The steeplechase will be held on Saturday, May 31, at 4:40 p.m. Mountain time. Â
Miley Richards will compete in the javelin. She is a sophomore out of Lehi, Utah, who transferred to WSU earlier this year after one season at Utah State.Â
She posted a career best mark of 154-02 earlier this month at a meet at Utah Valley. That ranks as the seventh-best mark in Weber State history. Richards also finished sixth in the javelin at the Big Sky Championships.Â
She enters the meet ranked 39th in the west region. The javelin will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 1:30 p.m. Mountain time.Â
Senior Kapua Pulotu is back at the NCAA First Round meet for the second-straight year. She is also returning as a Big Sky Champion. Pulotu won the conference title in the discus for the second-straight year and became the first Wildcat to ever win the discus in consecutive years.Â
She is ranked 45th in the west region in the discus, which will be held at 12 p.m. Mountain time on Saturday, May 31.Â
Pulotu posted a seasonal best mark of 171-01 at the Aggie Invitational in April. She is Weber State's school record holder in the discus at 171-11, which she set last year. Pulotu is a senior from Las Vegas.Â
Senior Laurie Murphy will compete at the NCAA First Round meet for the first time in her career. She will run in the 10,000 meters, which will be on Thursday, May 29, at 8:10 p.m. Mountain time.Â
Murphy posted a career best time of 34:16.22 in the 10K at the Stanford Invitational in April. That time ranks as the eighth-fastest in Weber State history. Murphy is a senior from Bountiful, UtahÂ
The NCAA Championships will be held June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.Â
