Ogden, UT - The Weber State Women's Soccer team took down Cal State Bakersfield 2-1 in the 2025 home opener to move to 2-1 on the season.
"Not the prettiest game of soccer we've ever played, but we grinded out another result where we had to come from behind, so I am super proud of that." Head Coach Kyle Christensen said, "Super proud of the girls for winning an ugly one because they can be difficult."
The Wildcats once again broke through early in the 2nd half with goals from Tenzi Knowles and Grace Kirby in the 50th and 55th minutes. Sayler Schlosser set up the Knowles score, while Sammie Sofonia assisted the Kirby clincher.
The Wildcats had their share of opportunities in the first half, including a Schlosser shot off the post in the 16th minute, but were unable to break through going into the halftime break down 1-0.
Freshman Lauren Butorac put the seal on the game with a clutch save in the 80th minute that denied the Roadrunners the equalizer.Â
The 'Cats outshot the Roadrunners 19-13 and had a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.Â
The Wildcats now sit at 2-1 on the young season and will turn their attention to hosting the North Dakota State Bison and their 1-2 record on Sunday at Wildcat Soccer Field. The two teams matched up last season in Fargo with the 'Cats taking it 4-2.
"We've got to stay healthy and regroup. We have a very important contest coming up at home on Sunday." Christensen said, "So we got to find our little groove again and see if we can put in a good performance again."
The match will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Wildcat Soccer Field. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free pair of sunglasses.
