Wildcats celebrate a goal against Utah Valley in 2025

Wildcats top Lancers in Riverside

9/18/2025 10:42:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Riverside, CA - The Weber State Wildcats women's soccer team defeated California Baptist 1-0 on Thursday night, courtesy of Simone Packers' first career goal.

The two squads were even at halftime, 0-0, despite the Wildcats outshooting the Lancers 11-6, 6-1 in shots on goal.

Grace Kirby had her shot saved in the 9th minute, and Tenzi Knowles' free kick from just outside the box was saved in the 22nd minute as the 'Cats were unable to break through in the first half.

In the opening minute of the second half, freshman Simone Packers' shot was saved, but she got her own rebound and put it in the back of the net to give the 'Cats a 1-0 advantage.

Packer is no stranger to scoring goals, having scored the most in 6A Utah girls' high school soccer during her senior season. This, however, is the first career college goal for Packer.

Freshman keeper Lauren Butorac produced her second career clean sheet, keeping the Lancers off the board all night. She turned back 4 shots on goal from California Baptist and helped limit the Lancers to only 3 corners on the night.

Packer led the offensive attack with 5 shots and 3 shots on goal. Kirby was close behind with 4 shots, 2 of them being on frame.

This is the second shutout of the season for the Wildcat defense, with the previous coming in the 2-0 victory against Boise State on September 11th.

The 'Cats road trip will continue as they head 2 hours north to Santa Barbara, California, where they will take on the red-hot UCSB Gauchos. The Gauchos come into the match at 8-1-1 on the season and winners of their last 7 in a row.

That match will kick off at 1:00 p.m. (M.T.). Streaming will be available on ESPN+, with live stats on weberstatesports.com.

The Wildcats will return home a week from today when they will kick off Big Sky Conference play against the Eastern Washington Eagles. The 'Cats will be hosting alumni night as they honor the alumni of the program who have helped pave the way. That match will start at 7:00 p.m. at Wildcat Soccer Field.
