Wildcats pick up big road win at Idaho

Tijan Saine leads Weber State with 29 points in 83-72 win.
MOSCOW, Idaho - Weber State picked up a dominating 83-72 road win over the Idaho Vandals Thursday night at the ICCU Arena.Â
The Wildcats never trailed in the contest and built a lead as large as 26 points before holding off a late Vandal rally to secure the win. Weber State improves to 7-6 in Big Sky play with five conference games remaining.

Tijan Saine Jr. had a season-high 29 points to lead Weber State, his sixth straight game of scoring at least 20 points.Â
Weber State scored the first seven points of the game and jumped out to a 26-11 lead midway through the first half. WSU went up by 21 points with 6:43 to play in the half and had their highest lead of 26 points late in the half, before leading 44-21 at the break.Â
The 'Cats were 5 of 8 from 3-point range in the first half and held Idaho to 26 percent shooting in the half.Â
The Wildcats led by 21 points with 15 minutes to play when the Vandals went on a 20-4 run over the next four minutes and cut the lead to nine points at 60-51. Weber State quickly responded with an 11-3 run to extend the lead to 17 points. The Vandals cut the lead to eight in the final minutes before the Wildcats held on for the win. Â
Weber State shot 48 percent from the field and made nine 3-pointers, while Idaho shot 42 percent. The Wildcats won the rebounding battle 38-31, and WSU was 18 of 20 from the free throw line.Â
Saine made four 3-pointers and was 5 of 5 from the free throw line.Â
Three other Wildcats joined Saine in double figures. Viljami Vartiainen had 13 points with three 3-pointers. Malek Gomma added 12 points and six rebounds and senior Nigel Burris, a former Idaho Vandal, had 12 points and four rebounds.Â
Trevor Hennig returned to the lineup after missing the last four games due to illness and had two points, six rebounds, and three assists.Â
The Wildcats continue their road trip at Eastern Washington on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. Pacific time (3 MT) on Saturday in Cheney.Â
