OGDEN, Utah — Following strong second-place finishes in their season opener, the Weber State men's and women's cross country teams will return to competition Saturday at the Indiana State John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The Wildcats will compete at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, with the women's 6K championship race scheduled for 8:30 a.m. ET, followed by the men's 8K at 9:05 a.m. ET.

Weber State opened the 2026 season with both teams finishing second at the Utah State Alumni Challenge. The men's team scored 30 points, placing four runners inside the top seven and five inside the top 10. Jake Peterson led the Wildcats with a second-place finish, while Tyler Spencer, Paul Scown and Evan Harris followed in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

The women's team also posted a second-place finish, scoring 47 points behind a deep pack of runners. Saga Hagelin led Weber State in seventh place, followed by Hailey Day in ninth, Frances Hudson in 10th, Melanie Anderson in 12th and Elin Hagelin in 13th.

The Wildcats will look to carry that depth into Saturday's races as both teams take on a competitive field in Terre Haute.

For the men's team, Peterson will look to build on his runner-up finish from the season opener, while Scown will continue his sophomore campaign after finishing sixth at Utah State. Spencer and Harris will also look to remain near the front of the Weber State pack.

On the women's side, Hagelin enters the meet after leading the Wildcats in the season opener, while Day, Hudson, Anderson and Elin Hagelin give Weber State a strong group of returners near the front of the pack.

The John McNichols Invitational provides the Wildcats with an early opportunity to measure themselves against a larger field and continue building toward the championship portion of the season.

Following Saturday's races, Weber State will return to competition Oct. 2 at the Idaho State Invitational in Pocatello, Idaho.
