LAS VEGAS -- The drought got a little bit longer for the Weber State softball team this weekend as the Wildcats dropped their final three games at the Eller Media Stadium Classic to fall to 0-15 on the season.
The Wildcats closed the tournament with an 8-0 loss to New Mexico State, a 9-1 loss to Southern Utah, and finally an 11-3 loss in a rematch with the Thunderbirds.
On Saturday, the Aggies scored five times in the first and another three times in the second to put the Wildcats away early. Genasee Aman recorded the lone hit for the Wildcats, breaking up a no-hit bid with a single in the fourth inning.
That night, the Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead on Southern Utah, only to have their momentum halted by a lengthy lightning delay in the third inning. After play resumed, the T-Birds racked up four runs in the inning, followed by three more in the fourth inning and another pair in the top of the fifth.
The Wildcats scored their lone run with a two-out rally in the bottom of the second. Morgan Gray walked to start the rally, and pinch runner Kalli Randall scored on a bases-loaded walk by Aman.
In Sunday's rematch with SUU, the Wildcats scored single runs in each of the first three innings, only to have the Thunderbirds post two runs each in the first and fourth innings to go along with back-to-back three run innings in the second and third to take a 10-3 lead. The T-Birds tacked on another run in the fifth for the win.
In the first, Weber State scored as Britinie Hardine, Ariel Whiteman and Aubri Chiquete strung together consecutive two-out singles, and in the second inning, Heather Jackson doubled home Marqi Gray for the team's run. Hardine blasted her first home run as a Wildcat to left field for WSU's lone run in the third.
The Wildcats will have next weekend off after playing 15 games over the last three weekends. WSU will return to action in two weeks as they travel to participate in a tournament at Boise State.
