Wildcat soccer heads to Cedar City on Sunday

CEDAR CITY, Utah – Fresh off a strong four-point weekend at, the Wildcats return to the road this weekend.
The Weber State University women's soccer team will put its two-match unbeaten streak on the line against in-state rival Southern Utah on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Thunderbird Soccer Field in its lone match of the week.

Weber State (1-2-1 Big Sky, 2-9-1 overall) defeated third-place Portland State and earned a hard-fought draw with Montana in two matches last weekend, and currently sits tied with the Grizzlies in the league standings.
Junior forward Morgan Quarnberg scored both goals against the Vikings, recording the match-winning goal on a 55th minute penalty kick and then scoring a critical late insurance goal on a breakaway after Madison Garlock's assists in the 85th minute.
The Wildcats followed up the shutout win over Portland State with a 1-1 draw against Montana, with junior midfielder Lauren Gibson scoring Weber State's goal in highlight-reel worthy fashion. Sophomore forward Paige Stevens started the sequence with a short chip corner to Garlock, who headed the ball across the goal mouth to freshman midfielder Sadie Newsom, and Newsom headed the ball back to Gibson inside the six-yard box, and Gibson headed the ball just inside the near post. It was her first career goal, and was featured by NCAA Soccer on social media.
Southern Utah enters the week at 1-3-0 in Big Sky play (2-10-0 overall) and will face Idaho State on Friday afternoon before hosting the Wildcats. SUU is 1-1-0 in two home matches this season, defeating two-time defending Big Sky regular season champion Idaho 3-1 at home last week.
Weber State leads the nine-match all-time series with the Thunderbirds 6-3-0, which includes 2-1 road wins in Cedar City in each of the last two years.
After this weekend's match with Southern Utah, Weber State will face a split weekend next week as it travels to Flagstaff, Ariz., to face Northern Arizona on Oct. 13, before returning home to take on Sacramento State on Oct. 15.
