Weber State drops two at San Diego Classic

Weber State softball dropped two in the second day of the San Diego Classic. First falling to San Jose State 13-0 and then later falling to #1 UCLA 10-5.Â
What head coach Mary Kay Amicone said: "I like the way we bounced back after our morning game. We show really good signs of progress. We need to finish strong tomorrow with a consistent effort and performance."Â
GAME 1 -
How it happened: San Jose State made some big moves in the bottom of the first. SJSU came up with seven hits, including a grand slam, to score 11 runs.Â
In the bottom of the third, San Jose State came up with two more runs to take a 13-0 lead.Â
WSU never found the momentum to gain any momentum and the game ended after five innings.Â
At the plate: Weber State had just two hits, both were recorded by Landi Hawker who had a double and a single.Â
In the field: The Wildcats had 12 putouts, one assist and one error.Â
In the circle:Â Kate Donaldson started in the circle for WSU and pitched 0.1 innings. She faced seven batters and gave up five hits, six runs, six errors and one walk.Â
Amanda Sink came in and pitched 0.1 innings and faced seven batters. She gave up two hits, five runs and four walks.Â
Jaclyn Gold finished the game and pitched 3.1 innings. Gold gave up three hits, two runs, two errors and one strikeout in the 14 batters faced.Â
GAME TWO -
How it happened: UCLA put up one run in the top of the first inning. Weber State answered with a big inning in the bottom of the first.Â
Takesha Saltern started things off with a single to the shortstop. Landi Hawker followed up with a single through the left side. Chloe Camarero then laid down a bunt to load up the bases. Bases loaded and no outs, Ashyln Visser singled through the right side for an RBI.Â
Bases still loaded, Faith Hoe then rocked a triple to right center for three RBI. Twin sister Lauren Hoe singled through the right side for an RBI. As the first inning came to a close, WSU had a 5-1 lead.Â
UCLA wasted no time chipping away at the score deficit by putting up one run in the second inning and then four in the third inning to take a 6-5 lead. The fourth, fifth and sixth innings went scoreless for both teams.Â
In the top of the seventh inning, the Bruins managed four more runs on the Wildcats and Weber State couldn't connect in the bottom of the seventh to make any moves toward the score deficit.Â
UCLA came away with a 10-5 win over Weber State.Â
At the plate: Weber State scored five runs from seven hits with five RBIs. WSU didn't draw any walks but did have 15 strikeouts. Faith Hoe led WSU going 1-3 from the plate but scored one run and had three RBIs from her triple.Â
In the field: Weber State had 21 putouts and eight assists. McKell McCuistion led WSU with eight putouts and had two assists.Â
In the circle: Kate Donaldson started in the circle for Weber State and pitched 2.1 innings. She faced 17 batters and gave up six hits, six runs and four walks. She recorded one strikeout.Â
Amanda Sink came in and finished out the game pitching 4.2 innings and faced 23 batters. She gave up five hits, four runs and seven walks. She recorded one strikeout.Â
Notes to know:Â Weber State has a 6-13 overall record now on the season.Â
