Wildcats to start 2020 season at Grand Canyon Kickoff

•Weber State softball is starting the 2020 season this weekend at the Grand Canyon Kickoff tournament where they will take on New Mexico, Stanford and tournament host Grand Canyon.

WHAT HEAD COACH MARY KAY AMICONE SAID:
"We're excited to get outside and play against some top-level competition. For us, the biggest thing is to maximize our potential and we have to be outside to do it. We can only make progress with tough level competitors. Our team has worked hard to grow and develop so we're excited to go see where we're at."

SEASON OPENERS
•Weber State softball has a 4-6 record in season opening games. 

Mary Kay Amicone is 3-3 in season openers in her time at WSU. 

•WSU is on a three game losing streak in season opening games. 


LAST SEASON WITH WILDCAT SOFTBALL
• Weber State is coming into 2020 after one of the most successful and historic seasons in school and Big Sky history.

•  WSU claimed the Big Sky Regular season title for the fourth consecutive year and it was the third time WSU won the Big Sky Tournament.

• Weber State is coming off a 27-21 overall record and finished 14-2  in Big Sky play.

• Last year was the Wildcats third appearance in the NCAA Regional tournament.

• Weber State made history becoming the first school in Big Sky history to win a game in the NCAA Tournament.

• Weber State is returning eight letterwinners from last season and seven starters while adding 10 newcomers.

Mary Kay Amicone returns for her seventh season as head coach and brought back with her assistant coaches Kristin Delahoussaye and Keven Jensen. She also welcomed Addie Jensen as a new student-assistant coach this year.

ROOT ROOT FOR THE HOME TEAM
• Weber State is 81-66 overall at the Wildcat Softball field.

• The Wildcats are 60-25 at home under head coach Mary Kay Amicone.

• WSU finished the home season with a 9-1 home record in 2019.

TWINNING IS WINNING
Weber State sophomores Faith and Lauren Hoe are twins. The duo are 1 of 22 sets of twins playing in Division I softball on the same team in 2020.

"MVP, MVP, MVP"
Senior Takesha Saltern is returning for her final season. She'smaintained a level of consistency at that plate that earned her the title of Big Sky Player of the Year in 2019. She is currently hitting .404 in her career, with a .497 slugging percentage and a .471 on base percentage. she's recorded over 200 hits and 540 at bats.  She has earned Big Sky Conference First Team honors three times in her career as an outfielder.
