Weber State picks up solid 4-2 win over Pacific

Weber State softball started the Wolf Pack Classic with a 4-2 victory to the University of the Pacific.Â
What head coach Mary Kay Amicone said: "Kate threw a very good game for us today. We played solid defense behind her as well. Lauren and Faith had a great day at the plate. It was nice to get back on the filed in a game situation to continue to improve."
How it happened: Kate Donaldson started the game pitching fire. In the bottom of the first, Donaldson had three strikeouts. The defense sparked some offensive momentum in the top of the second.Â
Lauren Hoe started the second inning off with a bomb over the left-field fence. Thanks to Lauren Hoe's homerun the Wildcats were on the board with a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Donaldson picked up her fourth strikeout of the game and two 5-3 putouts closed out the rest of the second.Â
In the bottom of the third, Pacific was able to get one run across thanks to two hits and one Wildcat error.Â
The tied game lasted just one inning because, in the top of the fifth, Takesha Saltern lead off the inning with a single to shortstop. Landi Hawker followed with a single. Two runners on base and one out, Ashlyn Visser hit a sac fly for an RBI. Lauren Hoe then continued her power at the plate with a double to right-center and for an RBI.Â
After five complete innings, Weber State had a 3-1 lead.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, WSU found themselves in a pickle. The Tigers loaded up the bases with just one out. Pacific hit a ball to left field, where Courtney Pestka tracked it down for an out and holding the runners on base. Pacific was able to get one run across before Kate Donaldson came up with another strikeout to end the inning.Â
WSU had a 3-2 lead going into the final inning of play.Â
Weber State put two runners on base in the top of the seventh and Hailey Fisher drove down the right-field line for an RBI. With just three outs left to play, WSU had a 4-2 lead over Pacific.Â
Bottom of seventh, Faith Hoe executes a 6-3 putout for out number one. Ashlyn Visser handled a line drive for out two. Pacific then loaded up the bases. Amanda Sink came into the game to close it out for WSU. Brooke Moeai then executed the third out to give WSU the 4-2 victory over the Tigers.Â
At the plate: The Wildcats scored four runs from eight hits with four RBIs on the game. Lauren Hoe went 2-3 at the plate with two RBIs and one scored run thanks to her home run and double in the game. Faith Hoe also came away with two hits in the game.Â
In the field: Weber State had 21 putouts and 13 assists. Ashlyn Visser had eight putouts while Lauren Hoe closed out six. Faith Hoe led WSU with four assists.Â
In the circle:Â Kate Donaldson started in the circle for WSU and pitched 6.2 innings. She faced 28 batters and came away with a career-high of six strikeouts. She gave up just four hits, two runs, two walks and one error.Â
Amanda Sink came in to close and pitched 0.1 innings. She faced two batters and had one walk.Â
Notes to know:Â Weber State has an 8-13 overall record now on the season. Donaldson's six strikeouts is a career-high for strikeouts in a single game. Lauren Hoe now has three total homeruns on the season.Â
Up Next: Weber State will head to Reno, Nevada to take on University of the Pacific and University of Nevada.
