Wildcats split double header with the Wolf Pack

Weber State softball continued the Wolf Pack Classic by splitting a double header against tournament host, Nevada.Â
What head coach Mary Kay Amicone said: "I'm really proud of how we responded in game two today. Lauren Hoe started us off and we managed to pitch out of some jams. We played much better and had some clutch hits by Hailey Fisher and Courtney Pestka. Kate Donaldson competed well and Amanda Sink was great in relief."Â
GAME 1 -
How it happened:Â In the bottom of the first inning, Nevada was able to get one run across the plate.Â
Weber State quickly answered in the top of the second. The Wildcats loaded up the bases and Brooke Moeai drew a walk for an RBI to tie the game. With bases still loaded, Courtney Pestka was able to hit in another RBI to give WSU the 2-1 lead.Â
The third inning went scoreless for both teams, but in the bottom of the fourth, Nevada hit a homerun for three RBI to take a 4-2 lead going into the fifth inning.Â
The Wildcats couldn't get any offensive momentum in the fifth inning and went scoreless. Nevada had a big fifth inning putting up four runs to take an 8-2 lead over Weber State.Â
In the top of the sixth, Ashlyn Visser drew a walk to get on. Lauren Hoe then cracked one deep over the left field fence for two RBIs. Chloe Camarero kept things rolling with a single up the middle but Weber State couldn't ever score her.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, the Wolf Pack got two runs from two hits to push their lead to 10-4.
WSU went scoreless in the top of the seventh, giving Nevada the victory.Â
At the plate: The Wildcats scored four runs from four hits with four RBIs. Lauren Hoe went 1-2 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored thanks to her homerun. Landi Hawker ended the game going 2-3 at the plate.Â
In the field: Weber State had 18 putouts and five assists. Lauren Hoe had nine putouts for the game high.Â
In the circle:Â Amanda Sink started in the circle for WSU and she also came back in and closed out the game. She pitched a total of five innings and faced 26 batters. She gave up seven hits and five runs. She gave up five walks but came away with seven strikeouts.Â
Jaclyn Gold pitched one inning for Weber State. She faced 10 batters and gave up four hits and five runs. She came away with two strikeouts.Â
GAME TWO -
How it happened: Weber State was the first to get on the board. In the top of the second inning, Lauren Hoe came up with a big swing for a homer to centerfield giving WSU a 1-0 lead.Â
It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Wildcat offense sparked new life again. Faith Hoe triggered it with a double to left center. Lauren Hoe then followed it up with a double to right center for an RBI.Â
In the bottom of the fourth, Nevada answered with one run and one hit and the Wildcats managed a third out leaving three Wolf Pack runners on base.Â
After five complete innings, Weber State had a narrow 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Nevada put two runs on the board to take the lead over WSU.Â
Trailing 3-2, heading into the final inning of play, Weber State came to battle. With two outs, Hailey Fisher hit one to right field and was able to get on due to a Wolf Pack error. Courtney Pestka then came up with a homerun for two RBI to take back the lead.Â
The Wildcats were able to execute the three outs needed in the bottom of the seventh to take the 4-3 victory over Nevada.Â
At the plate: Weber State scored four runs from eight hits with four RBIs. WSU drew one walk and had four strikeouts. Takesha Saltern went 2-3 at the plate, drew one walk and stole one base. Lauren Hoe also went 2-3 at the plate with one run scored and two RBI. Courtney Pestka ended the game 1-3, with one run scored and two RBI.Â
In the field: Weber State had 21 putouts and eight assists. Ashlyn Visser had seven putouts, while Saltern and Abigail Sagert added five each. Faith Hoe led the way with five assists.Â
In the circle: Kate Donaldson started in the circle for WSU and pitched 5.2 innings and faced 30 batters. She gave up nine hits and three runs. She also came away with three strikeouts.Â
Amanda Sink pitched 1.1 innings and had one strikeout in the five batters faced.Â
Notes to know:Â Weber State has a 9-14Â overall record now on the season. Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone is just two wins away from 200 wins in her seven years at Weber State.Â
