Weber State places 103 athletes on spring Academic All-Big Sky list

There were 36 student-athletes from women’s outdoor track and field, 24 from men’s outdoor track and field, 19 from softball, nine in men’s golf, seven from women’s golf, seven from women’s tennis and one from men’s tennis.
FARMINGTON, Utah (July 14, 2021) – The Big Sky Conference office has officially announced its 2021 Spring All-Academic Team for the league's various sports.
Weber State had 103 student-athletes recognized for the winter sports of men's and women's basketball and men's and women's indoor track and field. There were 36 student-athletes from women's outdoor track and field, 24 from men's outdoor track and field, 19 from softball, nine in men's golf, seven from women's golf, seven from women's tennis and one from men's tennis.
With the combination of fall and winter All-Academic honors, Weber State totaled 296 All-Big Sky honors during 2020-21.
The Big Sky announced its Fall and Winter All-Academic teams earlier this week, and will release its Scholar Athletes on Thursday (July 15), which honors a large group of student-athletes for their academic success.
In total, 909 student-athletes from the Big Sky's 11 full-time member institutions and two men's golf affiliate members (Binghamton and Hartford) were honored for their work in the classroom.
The league saw 46 men's golf, 75 women's golf, 242 men's outdoor track and field, 320 women's outdoor track and field, 111 softball, 50 men's tennis and 65 women's tennis student-athletes earn the title for the most recent season of competition.
For the 2020-21 season, following changes voted on by the league's Athletic Directors, a student-athlete must have met/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Be on an active roster for their institution; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
These requirements were adjusted from a standard model that included a minimum of playing time for the student-athlete, as well as the academic requirement. It is anticipated that this upcoming season the awards will be reverted back to their previous state.
"Despite this having been a difficult time in so many ways, an incredible nearly 3,000 combined recipients (over two-thirds of the league) across the three sport seasons rose to the challenge in their classrooms to earn Big Sky All-Academic Team honors," Commissioner Tom Wistrcill said. "These athletes deserve an enormous amount of credit for their success, and we are incredibly proud of each of them for thriving and persevering as students during the most unusual year of their academic career."
