The Weber State Wildcat softball team will play a two-game series against the University of Utah on Saturday and Sunday. These are the second and third games in a streak of four consecutive in-state games for the Wildcats, a stretch in which WSU plays UVU, Utah, and Utah State. This is also the final weekend for Weber State prior to Big Sky Conference play.
WEBER STATE (21-6)
-WSU trails the Utes in the overall series with a 3-15 record, its last win against Utah came back in 2019.
-The Wildcats won their home opener on Tuesday against UVU by a score of 7-0. It was WSU's fifth shutout of the season and the Cats clinched the three game season series against the Wolverines.
-Weber State currently has a 21-6 record on the year which is the best start in program history.
-Earlier this season the Wildcats won 12 consecutive games which set a record for longest winning streak in program history.
-With wins over Kansas and Texas A&M, Weber State has multiple wins over teams from power five conferences for the first time since 2019 when the Wildcats beat Ohio State, Stanford, and Utah.
-As of this writing, the Wildcats are ranked 52nd in the nation in RPI, the highest in the Big Sky Conference.
Wildcat Pitching
-The Wildcat pitching staff leads the Big Sky in ERA at 2.61, which places them at 46th in the nation.
-The Cats have surrendered less hits (161), runs (84), and earned runs (67) than any other pitching staff in the conference.
-With 190 strikeouts, WSU pitchers have struck out the second most batters in the Big Sky Conference, and have struck out more batters looking (59) than any other Big Sky team.
-Wildcat pitching ranks best in the Big Sky in doubles, triples, and home runs allowed, and is allowing a .233 batting average to opponents.
-Arissa Henderson is second in the Big Sky Conference in ERA at 1.53 and leads the team with eight wins on the year.
-Mariah Ramirez, the 2021 Big Sky Conference Pitcher of the Year, has struck out 33 batters looking which is tops in the conference.
Wildcat Offense
-The Wildcat bats are tied for the lead in the Big Sky in triples (five), and second in the conference in home runs with 21.
-Faith Hoe leads the team in batting average at .373, which places her in fourth in the Big Sky Conference. She is also tied for the conference lead in triples.
-Chloe Camarero ranks in the top five in the conference in slugging (.651), OPS (1.032), runs (22), home runs (eight), and stolen bases (five).
-The Wildcats have five players in the conference's top ten in stolen bases (Makayla Donahoo, Camarero, Mia Rushton, Katelyn Whiting, Faith Hoe).
