Weber State earns two wins on the second day of the Utah Tech Tournament

The Wildcats resume tournament play Sunday, Feb. 25 for a game against Eastern Kentucky.
St. George, UT - Weber State softball improves to 7-7 on the season after two wins on day two of the Utah Tech Tournament. The Wildcats are 4-0 on the weekend.Â

Game One - Weber State: 4 Eastern Kentucky: 2

- The game opened with a bang for the Wildcats as Kiaira Smith tallied her first hit in the bottom of the first after a double to right center, running in Riley Whalen. Soon after, Abby Grundy singled through the left side and Kiaira Smith earned the 'Cats their second run.
- Eastern Kentucky tied up the game 2-2 in the top of the second but then remained scoreless throughout the remainder of the game.Â
- To extend the Wildcats lead in the third, Smith singled up the middle and Mia Rushton found home plate. A steal to home plate by Makayla Donahoo scored the 'Cats final run in the game.Â
- Weber State claimed the game 4-2.Â
- Rushton and Whalen both went 1-for-3 at the plate and recorded one run.Â
- Pitcher Brooke Merrill earned the win tossing six innings and allowing only four hits. She had seven strikeouts. This performance moved her to 3-3 on the season from the circle.

- Against the Aggies, the Wildcat offense went to work. Utah State put up a run in the bottom of the first but the Wildcats responded quickly with a run in the top of the second off of a Mariyah Delgado double to right field.Â
- Weber State went ahead by two in the top of the fourth (3-1), when Delgado again doubled to left field and brought in two RBI.Â
- The Aggies brought in three in the bottom of the fifth.Â
- With two outs and bases loaded in the top of the sixth, Tori Rey walked allowing Emma Bingham to touch home plate. Securing the Wildcat's final run in the game, Makayla Donahoo singled to right field and Taegan Smith crossed the plate for a 5-4 advantage.Â
- The Wildcat defense was no match for the Aggie offense and Weber State shut down Utah State with a 5-4 victory.Â
- Cali McCraw took the win for Weber State pitching 2.1 innings allowing only one hit. She had two strikeouts in the game. The win improves her to 3-1.Â
- Freshman Mariyah Delgado went 3-for-3 with three RBI against the Aggies.
- Makayla Donahoo went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run for the Wildcats.Â
