Weber State closes the weekend 5-0 after a win over Eastern Kentucky

St. George, UT - A late run rally for the Wildcats awarded them the victory over Eastern Kentucky 11-3. Weber State went 5-0 on the weekend and improved to 8-7 overall on the season. 
 
  • Eastern Kentucky got on the board first with a single to second base in the bottom of the first before adding an insurance run shortly after on another single putting the Colonels up 2-0. Before closing out the inning, Eastern Kentucky's Jasmine Miller flied out to left field and Jeanay Riley scored on an unearned run.
  • To get the Wildcats on the board, Emma Bingham found home plate after Sammy Gallegos reached on a fielder's choice. 
  • Scoreless through three innings, Weber State managed a two-run rally in the top of the seventh to tie the score 3-3. Both runs were unearned on a fielder's choice. 
  • Pushed into extra innings, the Wildcats caught fire in the top of the eighth bringing in five runs. 
  • Tori Rey singled to left field to bring in one RBI unearned. After Mia Rushton walked, bases were loaded for the Wildcats. Taegan Smith then singled to right field and two Wildcats touched home plate. Up at bat next, Riley Whalen singled up the middle with two RBI, and Weber State went up by five. 
  • But the Wildcats were not finished yet, Makayla Donahoo tripled to left center with two RBI and Richardson singled through the left side where Donahoo earned her second run in the game. 
  • The Wildcats finished the top of the eighth with eight runs and six hits. 
  • Quickly shutting down Eastern Kentucky, pitcher Brooke Merrill struck out three batters and only allowed one hit. 
  • From there the Wildcats closed out the game 11-3. 
  • Brooke Merrill earned the win pitching 2 innings with one hit and four strikeouts. She improves to 4-3. 
  • Taegan Smith went 2-for-5 at the plate recording two runs and two RBI. Abby Grundy went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI. 
  • Riley Whalen and Makayla Donahoo both earned two RBI for the Wildcats.
