The Wildcats resume tournament play Saturday, Mar. 2 for a doubleheader against UCLA and San Jose State.

Fullerton, CA - Weber State softball upset Texas A&M in extras 5-4 but fell to Fresno State 7-0 on day one of the Judi Garman Classic.

Game One - Weber State: 5 Texas A&M: 4 
  • Neither side could find a run in the first two innings but the Wildcats changed that in the third and fourth with a two-run uprising from a Taegan Smith and Abby Grundy home run. 
  • With two outs in the fifth, the Aggie's Jazmine Hill doubled to right center to bring in two RBI and tie up the score 2-2. But that was all the action that the Aggies saw as Trinity Cannon grounded out and the Wildcats were up at bat. 
  • Weber State quickly had two outs back-to-back in the bottom of the fifth however, Mia Rushton singled up the middle and set herself on first base. To bring Rushton home, Taegan Smith doubled to left center and the 'Cats went up by one, 3-2. 
  • More action came from the Aggies in the top of the seventh when Kennedy Powell found home plate. The Wildcats were unable to find a run in the bottom of the seventh and the game was pushed to an extra inning. 
  • One run was scored in the top of the eighth for the Aggies and two were left on base. Pitcher Brooke Merrill only allowed Texas A&M two hits. 
  • Hoping to walk away with the victory, the Wildcats were up at bat. 
  • Weber State scored twice in the bottom of the eighth on a pair of passed balls and an RBI single by Gianna Memoli to upset and defeat Texas A&M in extras.
  • Brooke Merrill took the win for the Wildcats improving 5-3. Merrill pitched 1 inning allowing two hits and one run. She recorded one strikeout. 
  • Taegan Smith led the 'Cats going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Abby Grundy went 2-for-3 with one run.
Game Two - Weber State: 0 Fresno State: 7 
  • In Weber State's second game against Fresno State, the Wildcats fell 7-0 in seven innings. 
  • Fresno State scored one run in the first inning and added six more in the fourth.
  • Weber State found themselves trailing the Bulldogs and were unable to dig out of the hole.
  • The Wildcats tallied three hits. 
  • In the circle, Brooke Merrill suffered the loss (2-5) after finishing three innings.

The Wildcats return to the diamond on Saturday, Mar. 2 for two more games. First pitch against UCLA is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The game against San Jose State is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Live stats can be found at WeberStateSports.com. There will not be streamed games for the Wildcats.
