The Weber State men's cross country team will compete in the NCAA Mountain Region Championships on Friday in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 10k race is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. MT at the Regional Athletic Complex.Â
"We're excited for the opportunity to go to a regional meet this close to home," Head Coach Corbin Talley said. "It will be nice to have the whole team down there and a lot of local support. It should feel almost like a home meet."
The Wildcats will face off against 16 other schools in the meet. Five of which are nationally ranked: No. 3 New Mexico, No. 6 Colorado, No. 8 Northern Arizona, No. 10 BYU and No. 28 Air Force.
"The Mountain Region is traditionally the strongest region in the NCAA, and this year is no different," Talley said. "With four teams in our region ranked in the top 10 , and a very deep field beyond that, it will definitely be a challenging race."
The Weber State lineup:
Peter Visser, Sr.
Ty Davis, Sr.
Wesley Kallgren, Sr.
Taylor Knight, Sr.
Jake Peterson, Jr.
Owen Rogers, So.
Tyler Spencer, R-Fr.
"This is an incredible group of young men. They have worked hard together for years, and I'm excited to see what they can do on Friday," Talley said. "I believe we should be strong at the 10k distance, even better than we are at 8k."
Weber State placed 12th in the 2024 Mountain Regionals in Reno, Nevada.Â
The Wildcats are coming off a second place finish in the Big Sky Championships, totaling 58 team points. Peter Visser and Jacob Peterson were rewarded with All-Conference Honors for placing in the top 10.
Following the Mountain Regionals and if qualified, the Wildcats will look forward to the NCAA Championships which will be held November 22 in Columbia, Missouri.Â
