Wildcats Win Home Opener, Clinch Season Series Over Wolverines

3/22/2022 7:12:00 PM | Softball

The Weber State Wildcat softball team put on a show in its home opener with a 7-0 win against Utah Valley on a cold, windy Tuesday afternoon.

The scoring got started when McKell McCuistion hit an RBI double into the outfield that brought Mia Rushton home and gave the Cats a 1-0 lead.

Neither team was able to plate any runners until the bottom of the third inning when the floodgates opened for the Wildcats.

The bottom half of the inning started with a Makayla Donahoo triple, followed by a walk from Rushton who went on to steal second base. McCuistion reached base again with a walk to load the bases with Wildcats. Chloe Camarero bounced into a fielder's choice which scored a run and kept two runners on. When Faith Hoe stepped up to the plate, she smashed the ball into the outfield and sprinted around the bases for an RBI triple to make it a 5-0 ball game.

Arissa Henderson, who got the start in the circle for the Wildcats, came into the batter's box following Faith Hoe, and promptly sent a moonshot over the wall at Wildcat Softball Field for her third home run of the season, and gave WSU a 7-0 lead.

Although both teams would have runners reach base, neither team was able to score after that and the Wildcats wrapped up a shutout victory to improve to 21-6 on the season.

  • In an extremely well-rounded game, seven of the 11 Wildcats who came to the plate got at least one hit, and six Wildcats scored at least one run.
