Bombs Away: WSU Blasts Four Home Runs, Avenges Loss to Utes

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State Wildcat softball team avenged its 5-1 loss on Saturday with a resounding 9-5 win over the Utah Utes.
After surrendering three runs in the top of the first inning, it appeared that the Utes might be off to another big win, but these are the No Quit Cats.
Weber State answered in the bottom of the first with a three-run shot from McKell McCuistion to tie the ball game, then a go-ahead solo home run from Emily Ruhl. A Makayla Donahoo single into the outfield was enough to plate another runner and give the Cats a 5-3 lead.
That 5-3 score would remain for a hot minute as neither team was able to get things going on offense, but it was the bottom of the sixth when the Wildcats ended up getting some insurance.
A three-run blast from Arissa Henderson, her third in the last three games, extended the WSU lead to 8-3. Two batters later, Chloe Camarero socked the softball out of the park for a solo shot and gave Weber State its ninth run of the game.
The Utes were able to score two runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough. The Wildcats rode the momentum four home runs to a 9-5 victory over the Utes in front of a standing room only crowd at Wildcat Softball Field. The win moves Weber State to 22-7 on the season.

"My game plan was just to go in there and be aggressive. I just wanted to see a pitch I liked and hit it hard. It felt good getting a win against them. I think we needed it as a team and to bring us all together before conference is a big deal. I loved playing in front of the big crowd today. The Wildcats will make the trip to Logan to face the Utah State Aggies on Tuesday afternoon. That game will be played at 4:00 PM, and is WSU's final out of conference game before it starts Big Sky Conference action.

- This is Weber State's first win against Utah since 2019, and the second time that the Wildcats have beaten Utah in Ogden in school history.
- The victory is WSU's third over a team for a power five conference this season, tying the program's record set back in 2019.
